“I Am the God of All Families”

Ascension’s First Annual Family Camp

Why didn’t we think of this before? A camping trip for Ascension families. Ask anyone of us who pitched a tent along the Russian River the last weekend in July and you’ll be greeted with a smile and stories of good times. This all due to the inspiration of Panagiotis “Pete” Sotiropoulos, the planning and organizing of John and Angel Victor and Fr. Ari Damaskos, the fine culinary skills of George Landis and the spiritual leadership of Father Philip. Twenty-two families gathered at the spacious Casini Ranch campground on the Russian River to share in fellowship, spiritual renewal, kids crafts, great food, singing around the campfire and, of course, flaming marshmallows on a stick, yumm.
With our Orthodox Faith as the bond between us we really began to find out how much we have in common. There’s nothing like the fresh country air and the heavens above to bring us close to nature and even closer to God. The resounding conclusion after 3 days and two nights of tents, campfires and hearty meals is that we’re doing it again next year.
